Poor onboarding can leave a new employee feeling disengaged, unconfident in their role, and unhappy at your company. What can you do to set up your new employees for a long and fruitful tenure at your organization?
Set clear goals and metrics for success. Have an open conversation about what your new hire will gain from the onboarding experience, what exactly will constitute success in the new role, and what support they might need to get there.
Create a multi-departmental onboarding team. It shouldn't just be HR and your immediate team who bring on the new hire. Involve anyone who will be relevant to their job and their success.
Track progress. Be sure to check in to make sure that they're achieving the goals you've agreed upon. Are they completing the requisite tasks, meeting the right people, and accessing the systems they need to do their job well? If something is missing, step in to provide help.
